Nasco Staffing Solutions' Green Initiatives


Nasco actively endorses green living and working by supporting its fellow green companies and products, promoting environmental awareness and encouraging others to participate in these attempts to E.R.A.S.E. the Footprint.
Internally, Nasco thinks and practices Green everyday.  It’s through these daily efforts that they incorporate this five-point plan to E.R.A.S.E. the Footprint:

1. Our Environment is conditioned in support of Green living and working;
2. We Recycle vigorously;
3. We Access ways for constant growth and improvement;
4. We Support the cause;
5. We Encourage others to participate.

Environment – Nasco Staffing Solutions offers a Green-friendly workspace:


PROVISIONS

  • Nasco Staffing Solutions’ office space is arranged to ensure maximum use of sunlight through windows and skylight exposure, thereby maximizing the vision glazing factor and reducing the number of light bulbs in use.
  • Windows remain open during business hours to utilize natural ventilation.
  • Nasco Staffing Solutions is a non-carpeted office space and is located in a smoke-free establishment, reducing the quantity of indoor air contaminants.
  • An open-plan office encourages communication and reduces the use of notes, scripts and memos for interoffice consultation and planning.
  • An allocated bicycle storage area is provided, as are well-appointed changing rooms with shower facilities, encouraging employees to cycle to work with the intent of lessening pollution and land development impacts from automobile use.
  • Nasco Staffing Solutions encourages its employees to bring their own lunches to work by providing a comfortable eating space with refrigeration and heating facilities, cutlery, crockery and storage containers.
  • An in-house coffee machine and water filter unit with a large supply of reusable cups and glasses drastically decreases the number of disposable cups and plastic bottles in circulation.
  • Shared office space with Panther Management, Panther Constructors and Street Angels, a non-profit charity, reduces the carbon footprint associated with office facilities, operations and building amenities.

REDUCTIONS

  • White boards instead of paper sheets are in place for scheduling, calendar and project purposes.
  • Electronic filing and shared electronic drives averts the use of paper filing and printed manuals.
  • All meeting and planning session minutes are created and circulated electronically.
  • Courier pickups are scheduled in accordance with collaborative postage needs, preventing unnecessary collections and thereby reducing fuel emission.
  • Catalogue and magazine subscriptions are limited to one copy between Nasco Staffing Solutions, Panther Management, Panther Constructors and Street Angels, and are then passed around the office, preventing the unnecessary use of excess paper.
  • Recycled paper is our source for all printing requirements.
  • Double sided printing cuts our paper usage in half.
  • Refillable printer ink cartridges minimize the ongoing need for new plastic cartridges.
  • Green-compliant cleaning products prevent the emanation of ozone damaging fumes, biological and particulate contaminants and potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Each year end, Nasco sends out its holiday cards electronically, saving enormous quantities of paper and postage.  The amount of money that would have been spent on holiday cards is then donated to a number of charities including the Britannia Elementary holiday hamper program, the Vivian House transitional home for battered women and the Carls Rooms low income housing project.

Recycling – Nasco Staffing Solutions has an efficient recycling system in place:


PROVISIONS

Recycling containers are in place beside every desk.
  • Recycling bins are positioned alongside each printer.
  • Large recycling containers for paper products, bottles, cans and plastics are available throughout the office.
  • Regular recycling pickups are scheduled once per week.

REDUCTIONS

  • Payroll is triple checked before printing to minimize the number of corrections and reprints.
  • In-office staff have the option to receive pay cheques without an envelope in order to save paper.
  • Payroll pickup is an option for all our staff in an attempt to minimize paper in the mailing process. Collected cheques are not enveloped.
  • Cardboard from delivery packages are stored and reused, or sent for recycling.
  • All accounting policies and medical plans are paperless.
  • Name badges used at events for onsite staff are collected after each event and returned to the office. They are then distributed as necessary for the next event, minimizing the need for reprinting.

Assess – Nasco Staffing Solutions is accountable for continual knowledge:

  • At Nasco, we believe that we are only as successful as our last achievement and therefore constantly strive to advance ourselves and our efforts.
  • We educate ourselves on the latest products and services available on the market.
  • We investigate and continually seek new methods to improve our efforts to E.R.A.S.E. our Footprint.

Support – Nasco Staffing Solutions endorses green living and working:

  • Nasco chooses to work with companies actively involved in carbon footprint reduction.
  • All office product requirements and operations utilize green-friendly merchandise and promote the businesses producing these products.
  • Nasco sponsors events and supports venues nationally which show a keen consciousness in supporting the environment.
  • Nasco partners with companies who have their own green plans in place.

Encourage – Nasco Staffing Solutions motivates others to join the E.R.A.S.E. program:

  • All of Nasco’s outgoing emails contain the environmental symbol and a friendly reminder to “consider the environment before printing this.”
  • Onsite staff are encouraged to email or call in changes to personal information or requests, rather than send in or bring in a written update, in order to save paper.
  • Onsite staff are emailed electronic event information and training manuals in an attempt to minimize printing.
  • All staff are encouraged to make use of public transportation.
  • Onsite staff are provided with information on bus routes and departure times whenever possible and as often as is workable, group transportation is arranged for out of town events, in an effort to reduce fuel expenditure and the associated pollution.
