I’m writing with respect to the people you have at the Subway stops in Toronto handing out the 24 News every morning.

Mornings are always, as I’m sure you can appreciate, not the most favorite time for people getting on/off the subway; people push, you’re off to work; it’s not that fun.  To get a smile from anyone in the business core of downtown Toronto is well, a figment of many people’s imagination.  But for one lady.  This lady.  There is the woman who stands outside of St. Patrick Subway Station (northwest corner of Dundas & University) every day, rain or shine, and hands out the 24 News.  She is always nice, pleasant, has a smile on her face but the best part she “pimps” out her station!  I love it!!  For Diwali she had a sign wishing everyone a Happy Diwali, and today, for Halloween she had put up a skeleton and some cobweb and was handing out treats to everyone with their paper.  Let me tell you, after riding the subway with a bunch of crusty people, she is a delight to see every morning!!  I don’t know her name or where you found her, but this lady is exceptional and well, I thought someone should know because it’s not every day you run across someone in the core of the concrete jungle who still smiles and brightens your day.

Thank you for hiring her.  She makes coming in to work a little more pleasant every day.

Stella Artois Légére hosted a block party for 860 guests in a King Street West parking lot on Saturday night and Nasco was very lucky to be there with Mosaic Experiential Marketing. Read all about it here! http://t.co/ehZIZFy

Dear Mr. Ramsay,

This e-mail is not arriving because it’s Christmastime, but because for months now it has been overdue.  I would like to send my strongest compliments to you in your hiring of the lady who provides us with the ‘24’ magazine every morning at the St. Patrick Station. Her name is Sophia, but it should be “Treasure,” for that is what she is to us Torontonians.  Her smile, her good wishes, her “Have a great day” are always welcome because they sound so warm and heartfelt.

For anyone who has worked in Customer Service they recognize a true gem.  I hope you will find time in your busy schedule to let her know that she is so much appreciated.  “24” could not have a better ambassador.

Sincerely,
Jane Cockburn, R.N.

This was so great we just had to share!

Dear Mr. Ramsay:

During the recent municipal elections, I canvassed voters with Councillor Janet Davis at four subway stations in Ward 31 (Coxwell, Woodbine, Main Street and Victoria Park). I have helped coordinate this activity in many elections over the past decade in this constituency. We usually do this kind of convass as an early-morning, “plant-gate” style of activity. We usually begin before 7 AM. In other years we have usually been the only people greeting subway riders at this time of the morning. As you know, this year was quite different. At some of the stations there were two people handing out free papers (24 Hours and Metro). Sometimes it was a little crowded. However, both jobs (paper distribution and canvassing) got done and subway patrons got to work with a minimum of disruption.

The situation at the Coxwell subway station was a special one, and this is why I am writing to you. Janet and I met Allan twice in the course of the campaign at Coxwell (once in the week of September 13th and on October 6th). I’m sure that you know how fortunate you are to have Allan as an employee. He brought to the work of distributing the papers a warmth and geniality that would be uncommon at any hour of the day. It is especially uncommon in the dark and chill of an early fall morning. Somehow he was able to create the effect of an old-time newsstand. He had a cheerful word for everyone. Lots of people recognized him and had warm greetings for him. I know from experience how hard it is to get a subway patron to smile early in the morning. Allan is an absolute master of the art.

Please accept this letter of commendation. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Russell Hann

Nasco Staffing Solutions brings innovation to CSEME and the Vancouver event industry
Changing the face of event management, Nasco unveils e-DMC to the event industry

November 5, 2010

Vancouver, British Columbia – With live demonstrations at this year’s CSEME, Nasco in conjunction with Panther Production Company unveiled e-DMC, an online destination management tool to event tradeshow attendees this past Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Servicing clientele within British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba, the free service allows any event planner to directly book their entire event online with localized suppliers. Event planners are able to work within their budget while maximizing their time through e-DMC’s one-stop shop method.

“After five years of sponsorship and involvement with CSEME, each year proves to be more beneficial to our company, particularly when introducing new projects like e-DMC to Western Canada ,” says Alex Bickers, Director of Sales and Marketing for Nasco Staffing Solutions. “The positive response generated here at CSEME from both event planners and suppliers gives us the confidence e-DMC will be a huge success within the event industry.” The online service is expected to be populated by the end of November.

The national recognition and growth of CSEME within Vancouver alone is indication of more event planners from around the world choosing Vancouver as an event destination city. Nasco Staffing Solutions has been a proud sponsor of CSEME for over five years, providing registration staff for the conference and tradeshow.

“Nasco is number one in our books, the personnel provided for our registration and event staffing has been consistently professional, punctual and knowledgeable,” says Mark Wyatt, Partner and Director of National Sales and Sponsorship for CSEME. “These are all attributes that we look for in excellent event staff, and are qualities that are consistent with the staff that you provide, we would not hesitate to recommend Nasco staffing for any event.”

The growth of Vancouver’s event industry in an economic downturn has led to the growing trend of cutting event costs, the future of event planning is based upon centralizing efforts will maintaining quality. The introduction of e-DMC to Western Canada enables event suppliers to tap untouched markets thus creating new business through economic hardships.

e-DMC Names Destination Expert For Western Canada

Written by Fabian Stockton

e-DMC, an online B2B platform for the distribution of destination services today announced its partnership with Panther Production Company Inc (an associated company of Nasco Staffing Solutions), a leader in the event production, destination management, and staffing industry of Canada.

Through their exclusive partnership with PPCI and Nasco, e-DMC will now have the destination expertise to service Do-it-Yourself (DIY) clients in British Columbia (including Vancouver and Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games), Alberta, and Manitoba.

“The wealth of knowledge and expertise in the destination and event management field held between Panther Production Company Inc and Nasco Staffing Solutions makes the partnership as the exclusive Destination Expert in 3 provinces for e-DMC a perfect fit for all involved.”

“e-DMC will allow us to better service our existing clientele as well as reach new heights in servicing the market as a whole” says Alex Bickers, Director of Sales and Marketing

"As the Destination Expert in Western Canada for e-DMC, PPCI and Nasco will ensure users will get the best local expertise available while saving time and money as they schedule their programs at their own convenience online,” says Wayne Beaubien, Founder of e-DestinAccess and the brain behind e-DMC.

Online Distribution of Destination Services is fast becoming a hot topic for DMCs.

With players like Kuoni Connect going after the marketplace, currently valued at $100 Billion in the U.S. alone, individual DMCs will find it increasingly hard to compete in the DIY space.

Each month 250,000 people search for a “Meet & Greet” provider using Google’s search engine; each month 750,000 people search for an airport transfer provider via Google; and each month almost 2 million people also search for teambuilding providers.

Those Do-it-Yourself planner purchase destination services without the help of a DMC.

With e-DMC, selected DMCs can swiftly and thus competitively market destination goods and services, and from a broader perspective, level the playing field with larger competitors.

According to American Express and MPI's report FutureWatch, the “DIY” market has a value of $100 Billion in the U.S. alone - estimated to be well over $300 billion worldwide.

And, as aforementioned, ALL of that business is bypassing traditional DMCs, into the coffers of the large DMC giants, the true retail DMC competition or alternatively, transferred to private “DIY” planners.

e-DMC is designed to give individual DMCs the opportunity to compete in the growing “DIY” market.

About Military Families Fund (MFF)

The Military Families Fund (MFF) was created in April 2007 by General Rick Hillier, the former Chief of Defence Staff, to assist military families faced with unforeseen and often immediate needs that have resulted from military conditions of service. The fund continues to grow through the generous contributions of Canadians, corporations and other organizations, adding a new vehicle to support Canadian Forces members and their families. The MFF enhances and complements, it does not replace, existing public and non-public programs. The Fund fills the gaps by providing for the unforeseen and often immediate needs that families may have due to conditions of service. The MFF allows for several areas of support by way of grants, including rehabilitation, education, financial assistance in the case of injury or death of a Canadian Forces member due to service.

About Boomers Legacy

The Boomer's Legacy Foundation, named in honour of Corporal Andrew James "Boomer" Eykelenboom, a Canadian military medic who was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2006, was developed to aid the women and children in Afghanistan. Monies raised for the Foundation will be used to directly support the people of Afghanistan affected by poverty and war with an emphasis on programs and services for women and children. The funds will be expended through Canadian Forces' Task Force Afghanistan using the Assistance to Afghanistan Trust Fund, under the authority of the Commander, Task Force Afghanistan. To date, all collected monies have been spent on items such as food, medical equipment, educational supplies, clothing, and mechanical parts and equipment.

Nasco crews help bring dinosaurs back from extinction – live in Vancouver and Winnipeg

Perhaps one of the coolest shows that Nasco Staffing Solutions has ever been a part of, the BBC’s “Walking with Dinosaurs – The Live Experience” was none other than a ‘one-of-a-kind’ experience for Nasco crews as they helped transform the MTS Centre in Winnipeg and GM Place in Vancouver back to a time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth— a mere 200 million years ago!

“Walking with Dinosaurs,” for those who’ve yet to see it, is an extraordinary theatrical production where audiences get to experience 15 life-size species ranging from the Stegosaurus to the T-Rex—as snarling, terrifying and magnificent as they were in real life.

Accompanied by a spooky soundtrack of each species’ spine-chilling roars, the whole production consists of 125 performers and 27 semi-trucks.

Humans skillfully puppet the smaller dinosaurs while the larger ones move using a combination of animatronics, an army of puppeteers and a large stabilizing plate.

When “Walking with Dinosaurs” first rolled into Winnipeg last November, the crew certainly had their work cut out for them. A “unique” conversion to say the least, the whole arena was laid out with a proscenium stage at one end and the entire arena floor used as a performing surface.

There were 233 positions filled over seven days in Winnipeg ranging from stagehands and loaders to riggers, electricians and carpenters.

GM Place required even more crew when the show hit Vancouver late January. There were more than 240 positions filled with a large emphasis on audio, video and lighting to make the transition from GM Place to the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous eras all the easier!

The end result was a grand display of cutting edge animatronics and high-tech puppetry—complete with smoke, lighting and a large screen projection of landscapes taken from all over the world. The effects were unbelievably realistic, as the story moves through 160 million years!

“It really was mind blowing to see these giant, mechanical things move around for the first time,” said Nasco Vancouver’s Production Supervisor Mike Price. “I just couldn’t get over how immensely huge they were.”

Being a live performance, the Nasco crews ensured there weren’t any opportunities for glitches. And when the show ended and the lights came on, night after night, it was quite apparent that audience reactions were perhaps, even greater than the dinosaurs themselves!
